LA Bike Routes

I’ve started recording various routes that I take around the city. I’ll post them here, perhaps with commentary sometimes. If you have any routes, please post them.

I’ve been using a site, http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/, to record these routes. It is easy to use, and even has elevations if you want. My favorite online bike tool of the year.

My updated route. These days, I take 8th further and cut up to 4th on Rimpau, avoiding La Brea entirely.

5/15/08

This was a fun ride I took from UCLA to meet people in Los Feliz (the part of Los Feliz on the far side of the 5), then back to LAEV. Not bad for one of the first REALLY hot days of the year.

6/6/07

This is the ride to and from UCLA that I have been using since they finished the construction on Santa Monica Blvd. It is nice, calm, and avoids wilshire blvd like the plague. I highly recommend it to get cross town.

Routes to LAEV from UCLA/Westside

I’ve been trying to find a good way from UCLA to the LAEV. The simple answer is that there is not one. This is one I currently use. It uses Wilshire alot, but Wilshire is wide enough that cars don’t mind too much when I take a whole lane.

Below is another route that I use sometime, but it requires rideing on third for a few miles, and third scares me, too narrow. The section on Burton is nice though.

Any other suggestions?

8/11/06 - Mt. Washington to West Side

I was out in Mt. Washington, and decided I’d much rather have a leisurely ride home than sit on public transit for 1.75 hours. It is a little messy to get south to downtown from Mt. Washington, but the route I took was recommended my my friend. I made it home in 1.5 house, averaging 13 mph. Whee! The detour around downtown was planned, but I meant to take broadway, not Alameda, which took me pretty far out of my way. Interesting to ride down 9th street that far east though, there were lots of wholesale toy and candy shops along there.

June Midnight Ridazz (Ridazz Sells Out?)

This ride took us to the South Central Farm (sob). I did way more of the ride than I was happy with on a leaking/flat rear tire. Oh, and the route has the whole loop from the west side we took. Ridazz isn’t normally that long.
