I am an artist and activist, living in Los Angeles, California. I am involved with a number of local progressive urban environmentalist groups working to make LA a more livable place. Among these are folks greening the Los Angeles River, promoting bicycle and pedestrian transportation, creating viable public transit, and working to create more parks in my Koreatown neighborhood.
I have done a lot of graphic artwork for various progressive groups - fliers, t-shirt designs, maps, etc. I also work a lot in my sketchbooks, paint/draw in letters and on cards sent through the mail. In addition to all this, I do fine artwork on paper, mostly in India ink with watercolor, as well as some collage.
Over the years, I’ve had a number of art shows, but, as they say, “kept my day job” working for hospitals, non-profits, and for an excellent progressive City Councilmember of the City of Los Angeles. I currently do work for a few different progressive environmental non-profits. I am getting started on teaching an internet skills class for non-profit and small businesses.
The Los Angeles Eco-Village Wiki Logo is based on a hand-lettered design by Joe. It has an image of a [[Yarrow?]] plant which he holds in high esteem. Joe is also known in the community for writing and illustrating Down by the Los Angeles River Friends of the Los Angeles River’s Official Guide.
