Outcomes we want:
Members who see living at LA Eco-Village as a valuable opportunity
- for demonstrating a lower impact lifestyle
- for learning & engaging in respectful communication
- for learning & engaging community decision-making
- for forming and nurturing friendships that improve our quality of life
- for transforming from a consumer of goods, entertainment & news to a
participant in creating local economy, social activity and political change - to create cohesive & effective community
- to cultivate a deep appreciation for our diverse family histories.
- Members who fulfill their responsibilities as renters and community members.
Outcomes we don’t want:
- people who are motivated by needing low rent and once living here do not
participate in community activities & don’t feel a solidarity with the
community. They undermine these values in the community - people who feel their ideas are better than others and want to redirect
the community rather than engaging with fellow community members - people who do not respect the decisions made by the community and reserve
the right to do whatever they want - people whit religious, racial, sexual, gender or political attitudes that
interfere with the functioning of the community - people who have difficulty paying their rent or who do not make prompt
payment a priority - people who disrupt meetings or promote factionalism
- people who want to live here but feel an antipathy towards anyone
currently in the community - people who are selfish, obnoxious or overbearing to the extent that it
discourages participation by others.
Questions to ask.
- Is this person going to enjoy and value living in one of the apartments?
- Is this person going to participate well socially? Contribute through
volunteering? - Does this person function well in our meetings?
- Is this person motivated & available to attend meetings?
- In what way is this person living a lower impact lifestyle already?
- How do they see this to be an opportunity for them to further reduce
their lifestyle impact? Improve quality of life? - Is their anyone who feels that adding this person is likely to detract
from their own experience of LAEV? - In what respects do we anticipate this person making LAEV better?
- Will this person result in LAEV being more or less diverse.
- Does the community currently have time & interest sufficient to commit
to engaging this person as a candidate for the next 6 months?
