Proposed Bike Room Policy
Primary goal is one space per person. If there are additional unused spaces, they will be assigned on a temporary basis to those with need (primarily based on work needs and living unit size, to be evaluated by bike room committee), with the understanding that the second space may be re-assigned if others w/o spaces request space.
Needed infrustructure for this policy
- A committee to work on this
- An ability to properly define a space. Hook number works, slot in wooden rack doesn’t seem to. Perhaps we could rebuild floor rack? Replace with something else? I’m at a loss here.
- Tags to hook either on bike if parked or to label slot if bike is in use.
- Materials (budget?) to upgrade bike racks/hooks
Notes, ideas
- Space choice based on ability to use. Some residents may not be able to use wall or ceiling spaces due to strength needed for lifting
- Floor and wall spaces reserved for primary space, ceiling only for second space.
- A bike space request/survey to be taken by all who want space, and used for assigning spaces.
- Inspiriation needed for assigning/rebuilding floor spaces
- There was an earlier idea of having wall hooks to have bikes stored vertically (on their hind wheel), plus ceiling hooks for bikes to be horizontally hung (wheels up). This seemed to maximize bike capacity. We could have a few floor spaces toward the back for folks with difficulties lifting. This may ease the navigating in and out, and get rid of the challenging existing wooden slots.
