5. Koreatown Popular Assembly Update – Irma
This assembly came together after the election and the concerns around the community. There was a meeting with the community of about 100 people in February to listen to concerns. Immigration was a major concern, so since then the assembly has been working on a Rapid Response Network. This is a number that people can call in the instance of ICE presence to have people come to observe. Usually cannot stop any deportation, but can record any violations and make community presence known.
First Rapid Response Training is Saturday October 21st, 2017 from 10am-1pm.
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at 961 S Mariposa Ave LA CA 90006.
Looking for volunteers for both morning and afternoon.
Bruce: The meeting in February was very powerful. Apartments can be sanctuaries, something to think about.
Jimmy: Want to have a karaoke fundraiser at Relampago October 7th? Irma: Yes! Talk after meeting.

4. Schedule Andy’s provisional membership interview
Scheduled for next week
CONSENSUS

9. Lobby revitalization presented by Alex
Lobby is looking a little crowded, looking for a general idea of what we want for lobby. Please no specifics i.e. “I don’t like that couch,” just general vision of what we’d like for lobby

visitor: would like to see books and free shelf a little neater
Sam: don’t need as much furniture, like the tables near the windows, could do bean bag chairs or random pillows, ball pit
Kelly: fountain or water feature sound of birds chirping, tea station and/or water station
Irma: could do without big bulky stained couches, more comfortable cocktail, lounge spaces, we don’t really hang out there. Members don’t sit on certain couches don’t sit on certain couches but visitors do.
Sandy: there could be a schedule for cleaning the furniture, the floors are cleaned twice a week but we don’t know when the couches were cleaned
Bruce: anythings fine on a reasonable budget
Aurisha: big huge couches is a waste of space, minimal furniture might be better, we can find better, smaller attractive furniture
carol: need furniture that’s easy to clean, make decisions about where notices are and aren’t supposed to be.
Josh: change however you want
Joe: make sure kids can run around in it. Don’t want to be policing children. Indestructible furniture.
Michelle: important to keep in mind that the lobby is multi-functional space, soft corners, easy to move and clean, provides multiple seating possibilities. Interesting to get feng shui. Has a teacher who can do it.
Claire: likes soft furniture, like the idea behind the workspace table, water station yay
Alex: feel more open, does feel crowded, don’t usually see a lot of people down there.
Adonia: can’t work because it’s not quiet, private. Maybe a closed space. Disco floor. Great to convert loud wheelchair ramp into something nicer. Convertible space. Encourage ideas from Relampago
William: no more gross couches, like that it feels old, keep the historical feel.
Questa: private spaces good, at a minimum clean the couches and bring in some plants
Jimmy: aquarium would be great, something like a stage. Maybe a sign if you want to be left alone. Something with character. Collage that represents all of us. projector
Sam: add a red light if you don’t want to be messed with
Questa: please keep seating for the big presentations that we do there.
Adriana: convertible space, get rid of bulky couches
Bruce: beautification committee come back with a budget
Kelly: built in cushioned benches with storage underneath, bean bags.

Next 4s:

Irma- KPA will be meeting Saturday in community room
William- his organization will be hosting permaculture education

7. Shaila’s forgiveness of rent without 30 day notice due to family illness emergency
-submitted check, stopped it
-wants deposit back, but may need it to cover rent based on decision
-is claiming “need” basis
-Management is recommending the Board make the decision. It is difficult to assess what is an appropriate “need”. Management does not have power to change leases.
-advises instead we fundraise to cover this rent.
-Don’t want to break usual protocol in breaking lease, but want to be supportive
-Unit is now occupied with a visitor
-Shaila is a renter-member
-Bruce: we can give her a break and return the deposit, but she relinquishes rights to return as member
-Adonia: no system in place for reviewing these sorts of requests, so this ended up getting personal feelings as guide. Recommends giving Shaila what she asks for and then come up with a process for future such requests. Don’t want to make Shaila wait for this process.
-Mechelle: How much rent has not been paid, and how much is this in scale of things? Be realistic about budgets. She is probably someone who is able to pay this.
INTRO, NO DECISION
