2. Responder update/report
Thiago, so far this month only one person. Lois has responded (or sent information) to at least two others. Very slow this month. Next person on the list to respond is Lara. Maybe we need to check with other people. Thiago takes the responsibility to make sure there is someone responding during next month:
From now on the person responding will pass the torch gracefully.
3. Orientation proposal
To be clear with people.
To make the process easier.
Opportunity to answer questions.
Several inquiries were exploratory.
A tour and coming to a few meetings may not be enough to familiarize people with the process, depending on their background.
Some people are not good at reading content.
People may not have a good grasp of meetings or consensus.
It’s important that we minimize misunderstandings and that we minimize miscommunication with prospective/interested members.
In “Finding Communities”, the equivalent of their membership cmte communities do an interview.
A potential solution:
Regularly scheduled orientations, done by at least 3 LAEVers.
Proposal: Move orientation to “interested” phase, and schedule consistently every month. At least three LAEVers will be involved in every orientation. It is recommended that the orientation occurs before the person announces their intent to enter the process at a community meeting.
Federico will present this proposal at the next meeting, when we have the materials.
The actual orientation materials:
We need to add membership process as a section of the orientation, after the “consensus” section. We will give it 15 minutes, and see how long it actually takes once we conduct them.
We need to make a “script”/outline for whoever is presenting, that would be a sort of expansion of the flow in the first page.
-Ann volunteers to do it.
We need to rethink the “LAEV: A brief history” document to include more accomplishments and general history with less names.
Also what kind of projects we actually do.
- Joe will try to draft if.
Membership Process might go before consensus in the general flow so it goes from the specific to the general.
Add membership Process overview.
Get the Respectful communications to one page.
-Thiago will do the respectful communications (edit it to one page and work on the flow).
Goal: to have our first orientation in december.
Ann will convene the next meeting.
