2. Returning Member Draft Proposal
There are two proposals, one by Lara and one by Joe, they are like a compilation of ideas.
Discussion:
- The aproach of giving the former member discretion on what the process should be, in the sense of skipping certain steps in the process:
— might be tricky
— It could create a weird situation
— it could promote openness
— too much about the initiative of the person
— it could work only on the “good” situations
- Shortened Version of the process to be discussed
- List of concerns drafted by the community (e.g., did the person participate?) as a way
of generating a check list.
— this could be part of the community greenlight and then it would be a very short candidacy by just applying the regular process. Specially for people that stopped being.
- Idea: lets just set a time limit beyond which the same process just applies. We all agree on 4 years.
- On the short end: within a year the person could just request to come back as a member and the community would discuss it.
— There wouldn’t be an automatic come back. There should be a community discussion and should be the community’s right to deny or approve re-entry.
— Would it be a provisional member or a full member: the community would decide.
— One Decision, Multiple Outcomes: yes, no, some process, provisional, full.
— We could formulate 4 or 5 questions to help the discussion.
— Hard to come with objective criteria.
— When somebody is a candidate we can have them do steps as needed.
So, Anything less that 4 years. The person Fills out a questionnaire and requests a community decision with four possible outcomes:
- person is a full member
- person is a provisional member
- person enters the process at some point decided by the community.
- person is denied re-entry
The community also reserves the right to waive or add existing steps or requirements.
Yuki will present this item.
